Frequently Asked Questions:
Is the WV 5K Championship a Loop Course? Yes, the start and finish line are less than 300 meters from each other. This will allow for all runners and spectators to park in one spot. - Is the race certified by the USATF? Yes, course #WV09002MS
Do you allow walkers? We welcome walkers. We welcome anyone who is willing to come out and help prove to America that our area is not the unhealthiest!! Keep in mind, the course officially closes at 9:00 AM. This is a 20-min/mile pace!
When and where is packet pickup?
What hotels are close to the race? We have two very nice hotels within one block of the finish line. Click here to learn more. Course Information and Race Rules:
Where can I park? For your convenience on race day, plan to arrive before 7:00 AM. We recommend that participants park in one of the two parking garages at Pullman Square. Both of these parking garages are just feet away from the Start/Finish Line.
Where is the Start/Finish Line? The Start and Finish Lines are both on Veteran's Memorial Blvd. between 10th St. and 8th St.
How long will the course remain open? For safety reasons, the course will close at 9:00 AM.
Where are the aid stations? Medical staff will be located at the start/finish area. In addition, there will be a watered station half-way through the race and an ambulance following the race.
Where are the restrooms located? Pullman Square has public restrooms that will be available. Additional restrooms will be available at Harris Riverfront Park.
What happens if I cannot complete the race in the allotted time? The race course closes at 9:00 Am. at which time, the runners still on the course will be asked by the Huntington Police Department to move off the road pavement and onto the sidewalks.
Are baby joggers allowed on the course during the race? Baby joggers are welcome. We simply ask that those runners line up in the back of the group at the start line for safety reasons.
Can I run with my dog? For safety reasons, no animals are allowed on the course.
What is the cancellation policy?
I’ve already registered‚ but I can’t run in the
race now. Can a substitute run in my place?
Do runners need to qualify to run or could a
novice/amateur register for the race?
Are there group discounts or scholarships
available?
Is there a limit to the field size?
Do I have to be a member of USATF to compete? No, we welcome anyone. Only USATF members will be eligible for USATF awards. There will be duplication of awards in this area. (This means that if a USATF Member finishes 1st in their age group in the open division, they will receive an award for their open age group along with their USATF age group).

Are awards based on gun time or chip time?
What is the difference between gun time and chip
time? Chip time is the time it takes you to go from the start line to the finish line‚ regardless of when you cross the start line.
What are the age divisions for awards?
We will have two separate Age divisions for awards. We will be awarding age group winners for those in that are USATF Members and an open division.
