TriStateRacer.com Donates Race Proceeds to Feed the Hungry
By: Kayla Dodd
This past Thanksgiving morning (November 24), 147 runners and walkers braved the cool and rainy temps to give back to others in need! TriStateRacer.com hosted the 3rd Annual Racing Hunger 5k Turkey Trot at Barboursville Park and is proud to announce that we raised $1,500 to donate to the Greater Barboursville Community Outreach.
In early 2014, the GBCO was created to help meet the needs of people in the community. They host a free monthly meal for anyone to come to. 100% of the proceeds from our Turkey Trot were donated to their program, which goes towards providing meals and supplemental food assistance to local community members.
Race participants were encouraged to register as a team, to not only show team spirit, but to encourage family members to sign-up together so that they could give back to the community as a whole. Participation each year continues to grow and through this, we are able to assist hundreds of individuals in need each and every year.
Pat Riley, owner of TriStateRacer.com said, “Never before have we had the opportunity to help so many people with a single event. When we found out that each registration would provide several community members with meals, we knew that we had to help. We are thankful for all of the participants and volunteers who helped to make this event great!”
