TSR Runner of the Week-Shellie Webb
By: Kayla Dodd
This week’s TSR Runner of the Week not only features local runner, Shellie Webb, but I would also like to recognize her best running buddy, Dory! Shellie and her dog, Dory, train and run several races together!
Shellie began her running journey in 2007 and also completed her first 5k during this year. After coming in almost dead last at her first 5k at the Chesapeake Octoberfest, she knew she wanted to step up her game and set goals for herself! She has never ran a 5k in under 30 minutes and has a goal for herself to run a 5k under this time. “My motivation to run is for a healthy lifestyle. I also think about how fortunate I am that I am physically able to do it. I don't want to ever take that for granted.”
One of Shellie’s upcoming races that she is looking forward to, is the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February of 2017. If you have ever participated in this race, you know it is a pretty awesome and cool (FUN) race….especially if you run it with friends!!! Her favorite running quote is, "When it's all said and done, the finish line doesn't care how many miles you have ran or how fast you have gone. It just cares that you arrive. That you finish what you started."
One of her best experiences at a race, was when she previously ran in the Disney Princess Half Marathon, and dressed up as Cinderella. “During the race, you get to run through several portions of the parks and also Cinderella's castle…I got a little teary-eyed, there is just something very magical about it. There are characters cheering you along the way and it is very well organized. The really COOL thing about it, was they used my "finish line" picture as part of their advertising and marketing materials for future Disney races! My photo was featured in brochures and also the RunDisney website. I am super proud of that!!”
She does not necessarily have a favorite brand of running shoe, but said that she has been known to buy shoes to match her outfits!! There is nothing wrong with looking good while you run, right?? But right now, her favorite pair that she runs in a lot are her Nike’s.
The one thing that she cannot run without is her k-9 companion, Dory! Dory is a redbone coonhound and Shellie adopted her on February 13, 2016, at the My Furry Valentine event in Cincinnati. Dory’s first race was the Holy Family Race earlier this year on March 12th. She is also a Dock diver and a member of Kentucky DockDogs, so Dory keeps Shellie on her toes when they go for a run!
Be on the lookout for Shellie and Dory at your next race, I see them out at lots of races and having a good time! Running has changed both their lives and brought them together, as best running partners! We wish Shellie the best of luck on ALL of her running goals, TEAM TSR will see you at the finish line!
