TSR Runner of the Week-Scott Partlow
By: Kayla Dodd
Congratulations to local runner, Scott Partlow, on being the TSR Runner of the Week! I know I have seen him cross many of our finish lines over the past few years! Scott regularly ran back in the days, when he was enlisted in the Army, from March of 1984 through December of 1991. He then took a 17 year hiatus from the running scene, but 7 and a half years later, he picked right back up where he left off! Scott has been hitting the pavement long and hard and on a consistent basis since March of 2009!
His first race took place in Babcock State Park in April of 2009. The race was the Babcock Gristmill Grinder Half Marathon Trail Run, which he ran less than 2 months after his big return to running! Go BIG or go home, right?? Scott said, “I was woefully unprepared, but I survived and a fire was lit!”
He recently set a new PR for himself at the 2016 West Virginia 5k Championship, with an awesome time of 18:45!!! He also has great times and PR’s for his half marathon and marathon times, with the half (13.1 miles) at 1:29.59 and the full (26.2 miles) at 3:24.19.
Scott has 2 goals for himself that he is currently working towards: run a 5k at a 5:59 pace (18:35) and run a 50k trail run (31.06 miles)!!!! Makes me tired just thinking about that!
When asked what motivates him to run, see what he said: “The fear of getting old and slow, and the extra beers I award myself for a job well done!” Sounds good to me!!!
He loves when runners are encouraging and inspiring others to get out there and run. “When someone is struggling, a small act of kindness, consideration or concern, can make a HUGE difference!”
Scott is currently working towards his 2nd marathon, which is taking place this fall. He loves being able to participate in so many local races, but if for some reason he found himself in Montana in June, he said he could not resist running in the Yellowstone Half Marathon! I think that would also be an awesome race to participate in, great scenery for sure!
His favorite running quote is by Forrest Gump, “That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run.” His best experience from running would be the camaraderie with like-minded people… active people who want so much to be healthy that… they take action and get it done! His favorite brand of running shoes are Saucony’s and his favorite piece of running gear is the Garmin Forerunner 405!
His best advice for a beginning runner (and other runners too), get fitted with the right pair of shoes and train at least 4 days a week…even when you do not feel good, just do something small.
Running has been instrumental in maintaining both Scott’s physical and mental strength. He absolutely loves running various distances, especially hitting the trails! Next time you see Scott out there, give him a shout out, I know I will!
Good luck Scott, on ALL of your running goals, TEAM TSR will see you at the finish line! Do you know someone who should be the TSR Runner of the Week? Comment below or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
