Healthy Snack Ideas, While Cheering on Team USA

It's Rio 2016! The Olympic Games have started! In a salute to the Team USA, let's give our school kids Olympic worthy snacks to get them kick started for a successful school year. 

In our salute, USA colors and foods can provide nutritious snack choices.

Here are a few examples of healthy snack choices for back to school and cheering on our Olympians!! 

 

1.  Plain yogurt with fresh strawberries and blueberries!

Both yogurt and berries make for a low calorie snack and are nutrient rich.  Packed with vitamins and minerals this combo also helps satisfy hunger 

containing both fiber and protein.

 

 2.  Popcorn!

Air popped popcorn can be a healthy snack - as long as it's not packed with butter, oil, sugar and salt.  Popcorn is another food packed with fiber and can help control hunger.

 

3. Cottage cheese and pineapple 

Not only a super delicious snack but contains protein and calcium !

 

4. Hummus and carrot sticks

Hummus contains iron and protein while carrots contain fiber and rich in vitamins A,C and K!

 

 5.  Trail mix 

Trail mix is made from different nuts, which are a great source of protein and fiber, and something sweet such as raisins, cranberries and even chocolate chips. 

Trail mix is super fun and easy to make and you can create many variations!

 

 6. Apple slices with peanut or almond butter!

Try eating apple slices with a little bit of peanut butter or almond butter which is a great source of a healthy fat and protein.
