The West Virginia 5K Championship is a fast 5K loop course that circles the downtown Huntington area. The race course will close at 9 AM, at which time runners still on the course will be asked by Huntington Police to move off the road pavement and onto the sidewalks. The start and finish line will both be on Veteran's Memorial Blvd.

 

The start will take the runners west on Veteran's Memorial Blvd approximately 0.6 mile before turning left on 1st St. where they will head South for two blocks before turning left again on 5th Ave. They will travel almost 1.5 miles down 5th Ave. before turning left on Hal Greer Blvd. Two blocks on Hal Greer then the runners will turn left on 3rd Ave where they are a little more than half of a mile away from the finish line. The runners will run on 3rd Ave while going onto Veteran's Memorial Blvd where there is a slight downhill to the finish!

There are three separate parking garages in downtown Huntington that will accommodate the parking needs of the runners on race day. There are two parking garages in Pullman Square that charge $1 for four hours of parking. The parking garage on 3rd Ave. and 8th St. does not charge for parking. There are a couple of free parking lots as well as street parking available. We recommend that runners use one of the two parking garages in Pullman Square as they are closest to the start/finish line.

The West Virginia 5K Championship follows the USATF Competition Rules.

 

Wear your race number on the front of your running shirt or shorts. This number must be clearly visible to race officials.

 

Timing for the West Virginia 5K Championship is provided by Tri-State Timing Services‚ using your race bib and a timing chip. Your personal ChampionChip will not be required. Please arrive early enough to anticipate traffic‚ your pre-race needs.

 

All Timing Chips must be properly secured to your ankle.

Do not forget your chip on race day, without a chip, you will not receive a time!

The timing chip must be secured to the participant's ankle. If the runner carries the chip in his/her hand, fanny pack, etc. the chip will not be able to record a time.

Fasten the timing chip with the strip provided with the chip.

Chips are non-transferable and must be worn only by the participant to whom it is assigned.

Do not cross the finish line more than once.

Do not lose your timing chip; a $35 replacement fee will be charged to any participant who fails to return the chip at the finish line.

 

 

FOR EVERYONE’S SAFETY‚ NO PETS OR ROLLERBLADING ARE ALLOWED. There are no exceptions! If you run with a baby jogger‚ please line up in the back of the runners’ pack for the safety of you‚ your baby‚ and the other runners.
