11/18/08 State Cross Country: Bowen 10th, Fairview Girls Fourth - The KY State Cross Country Meet that was held in Lexington featured a couple of runners from our area. A few of them have graced the front page of TriStateRacer.com as race winners!

 

11/17/08 WVU Wins MId-Atlantic Championship - They didn't win outright but they did beat Villanova, who beat them in the Big East Championship and tied No. 4 ranked Princeton. Click here for Full Results.

11/14/08 Sad but Uplifting Story of the Day - Here is a story of the Tennessee State Champion who lost his friend and fellow XC runner a week before he crossed the finish line at his State Meet. This is a great story that also tells how running got him through the pain and might give us a glimpse at how running effects our lives in such a positive way.

 

11/14/08 Big Weekend Ahead - The MU XC Teams and the WVU Girls XC Team are heading to their Regionals. The WVU Girls are expected to qualify for  Nationals while the MU Teams will need a big weekend earn their ticket to Terra Haute, Ind. Locally, we have the Nick Caldwell Memorial 5K in St. Albans, WV.

 

11/13/08 Women's NCAA Regional Predications - WVU Girls team is in action this weekend. Marie Louise Asselin is predicted to take home the Mid-Atlantic regional title on her way to the NCAAs. The girls team is predicted to get third behind Princton and Villanova! This will be a great rematch. Just two weeks ago, Villanova edged out WVU to take the Big East Championship. Will the WVU girls be able to get revenge?

 

11/13/08  X-C Women Ranked Ninth in Final Atlantic Regional Poll - The WV Weleyan women's XC team was the only team from the WVIAC to crack the top 10!

11/2/08 Marathon Shows Off Huntington - If you haven't been to Huntington in a while or live in Huntington, this marathon is a great way to see the city. It hits all of the most beautiful places in the town.

 

11/2/08 OSU Student wins the Marshall Marathon - Congrats to the 25 year old who won today's Marathon in Huntington, WV!!

11/1/08 Marshall Men's Cross Country Team Places Fourth - Congrats to the Men's XC team at MU. They had another good season and looks to be improving. With a couple more good recruits fans can be looking to a very promising year next year. 10/31/08 WVU Girls Finish 2nd in Big East Championships - Marie Louise Asselin wins the overall title while Clara Grandt and Keri Bland finished|  3rd and 4th respectively. Villanova beat the girls by 8 points putting their top 6 in front of WVU's 5th runner. Click here for results

10/30/08 WVU Looks to Defend Title - The WVU Girls are heading to the Bronx to defend their Big East Title. They are picked to win the title. After this weekend, they are heading to the National Qualifier where they should be a shoe in for the big dance (National Championship) in Terra Alta, Ind.

10/29/08 Big Weekend Ahead - I know this is a little early, but this is one of the BIGGEST running and racing weekends this year. On Saturday, we start with the WV HS XC State Meet at Cabell Midland High School.  Come by and cheer on the young runners. It is the only sport that you can watch and get a workout in at the same time. There is the Freaky Fall 5K in Louisa, KY, the Hawaii 5K in Russell, KY, The Pastor Mark McCalla Memorial 5K in Huntington, WV and the Toys for Tots Trot 1 Mile in Parkersburg, WV. On Sunday, we have the Marshall Marathon. The entries for the Marshall Marathon closed last night and we will have an entry list sometime in the morning. 10/29/08 WVU Still Ranked No. 5 in the Nation - The WVU Girls XC Team will be heading to The Bronx, NY this weekend to attempt to capture the 2008 Big East Conference Crown.

 

10/28/08 Fairland 12th at Cross Country Meet - Congrats to the Fairland Cross Country Team led by freshman Tanner Mattie.

10/23/08 Zach Tennant - Athlete of the Week - Zach has set the state on fire this year. However, he has been struggling lately but still is the favorite to win the WV HS State Meet on Nov. 1 where he set the course record early this year with a time of 15:52

10/23/08 Wesleyan Favored in WVIAS XC Championships - The WV Wesleyan Men's and Women's teams are favored to win this weekend's WVIAC Cross Country Meet in Wheeling.

10/21/08 WVU Jumps to No. 5 in the Nation - We have no idea why more people are not PUMPED about this!! WVU is 2nd in the Mid-Atlantic region behind Princeton. Princeton is No. 4 in the nation!! WVU jumped to No. 5 without even running their No. 1 runner this past weekend!!!

 

10/21/08 No. 7 Cross Country Leading WVU Athletics - OH YEAH!!! Coach Clearly looks to be explaining what XC is and how AWESOME his team is compared to the struggling "BIG TIME" sports at WVU. The WVU Girls XC Team is the only team at WVU that has lived up to the Pre-Season Hype!!

 

10/21/08 St. Alban's High School Runner Caleb Ellis is Scholar Athlete of the Week - Caleb has been leading a St. Alban's squad that has continually shown growth throughout the season.

 

10/21/08 WVU Cross Country Remains #2 in Mid-Atlantic Weekend - No change in the regional rankings for the WVU Women's Cross Country team. The girls traveled up to Penn State this past weekend and easily took care of the competition claiming first place!

10/17/08 The Right Shoe Can Get Help Runners/Walkers Avoid Injury - The Herald-Dispatch profiles Robert's Running Store in Huntington, WV. Robert Smith is the owner and namesake of the business. They have a great crew there that are all runners and can help anyone get into the right shoe. Cabell Midland's Track and Cross Country Coach Chris Parsons sends all of his runners there. If it works for a program like Cabell Midland (Over 10 State titles in Track and Cross Country) then it has to work for you!

 

10/17/08 WVU Girls Takes First Place at Penn State - WVU's No. 1 runner was not there and they still destroyed the competition. WVU almost put all of their top 5 runners in the top 10. Click here for complete results! Tomorrow is the Pre-Nationals at Terra Haute, Ind. Check back here early next week as we will see if WVU Girls, who elected to stay away from the Pre-Nats, holds onto their No. 7 national ranking.

 

10/17/08 BIG WEEKEND AHEAD - We have TONS of stuff coming up this weekend. Both WVU and MU will be in action this weekend as the WVU Girls are heading to Penn State to compete against some of the best in the nation while the MU Cross Country Teams will be heading to Evansville, Indiana. We have the MU ALUM RUN 5K tomorrow. As of yesterday at noon, they had over 260 pre-registered for the race. The record number for the most finishers in a 5K in Huntington is 350. They really want to break that record tomorrow. There is also the WILDCAT 5K in Catlettsburg, KY, the FAITH RUNNERS 10K in Paintsville, KY, the AUGGIE'S 5K in Wheeling, the FRIGHT NIGHT 5K in Stewart, OH, the Apple Trample 5K in Martinsburg, WV, the BELINGTON 1-MILE RACE in Belington, WV, and on Sunday, the AB PA 5K in Philippi, WV.

 

Now if you can't find somewhere to race tomorrow.......  Good luck to all and see you out there!!

 

10/17/08 LKC Cross Country Runners Take Gold - More coverage from the Little Kanawha Conference Meet where St. Mary's Girls and Ravenswood Boys took home the team titles. Congratulations to Nathan Rees and Emily Kittle for their individual wins!

 

10/17/08 Ciarolla, West Boys win NCAC Cross Country - Congrats to David Ciarolla who beat this year's most talked about runner Zach Tennant. This is a huge feat as Zach Tennant has been running some of the fastest tims in WV and was featured on various national cross country web sites. Ari Kasprowicz of Preston High School continued her streak of individual wins this season as she won with an amazing time of 18:33.

 

10/16/08 Runners Converge on LKC Meet - That is the Little Kanawha Conference meet held in St. Marys, WV. This meet features the unbelievable dynasty that is the Ravenswood High School Boys Cross Country Team. The have dominated the AA-A class at the state meet for the past decade and they proved last night that they are not yet ready to give the State Meet Title to anyone this year.  The Ritichie Co. Girls Cross-Country team claimed the LKC crown as well!

 

10/16/08 Jefferson Boys Run Down Berkeley Springs - More High School Cross-Country Conference action here. In this race the No. 1 ranked runner in WV, Corey Hampshire, took a wrong turn. Lenny Roach of Berkeley Springs took advantage of this mishap and came away with the individual title for the men. Berkeley Springs Girls were able to run away with the team championship in this one!! Andrea Nickerson of Jefferson was crowned individual champion.

 

10/16/08 Local Runners Take Part in Times Inv. - This story is a little late as it recaps the Times Inv. which was held on Saturday. Most of the teams competed last night as well.

 

10/16/08 Coverage from the MSAC Championship at Cabell Midland Last Night

 

No Surprises at MSAC Meet - The title says it all. David Caldwell, who was featured here earlier this week, ran away with the Men's Individual Title while Cabell Midland captured the team title. On the Girl's side, Alex Dent of Hurricane High School convincingly won the girls title leading the rest of her team to victory. Only two weeks till the state meet. Hurricane's Dent wins MSAC Cross Country Title - This girl has running in her blood as she is the daughter of the West Virginia 800m record hold Chuck Dent. Alex and the rest of the Hurricane Girls team have dominated every meet they have been to this season and are the favorites coming into the state meet on Nov. 1 at Cabell Midland High School.

10/15/08 Barboursville, Milton win in Cross Country Championship - Congrats to Milton's Jorden Thronton and Barboursville's Jacob Burcham for winning the individual titles in the 1st ever Cabell County Middle School Cross Country Championship!

 

10/15/08 Cross Country Remains No. 7 in the Nation by USTFC - The WVU girls, even though they were not in action this past weekend, keep their No. 7 spot. The girls will race this weekend at Penn State!

 

10/14/08 Interview with Sharon Stanton on UpLate - Sharon is the genius behind this weekend's MU ALUM RUN and the Bun Run 5K. These are two of the biggest races in Huntington as each consistently have over 300 runners. 10/14/08 Less Work Has Made Difference for South Charleston Runner - A great profile of David Caldwell. He is the lone man on his team and is coached by the former Marshall stand-out Brad Kohler. Caldwell has consistently performed in his meets and Kohler hints that there may be more to come as Caldwell has yet to push himself in meets this season!

10/12/08 Marshall University Men's XC team finishes 3rd at Furman Inv - The Men's XC team does a great job as Sophomore Eric Fronaphel leads the team again with a time of 26:56 to earn himself 4th place overall. Freshman sensation Matt Schiffbauer finished 6th overall with a time of 27:14. The girls team was lead by Alison Cox who placed 23rd with a time of 20:10. The girls team finished 7th Overall. 10/10/08 The Weekend Ahead: We have another big weekend ahead of us. The Marshall University Men's and Women's XC teams will be traveling to Greenville, SC for the Furman Inv. On the road racing circuit, we have three events this weekend. First the Covenant 5K Run at the Barboursville Park in Barboursville, WV. The Bobcat Basketball 5K in Franklin Furnace, OH and the Chesapeake Oktoberfest 5K in Chesapeake, OH.

 

10/10/08 City Rivals Meet in Dual - This is the epic battle of the City of Parkersburg as Parkersburg High School and Parkersburg South High School meet tonight to see who is the best high school cross country team in Wood County, WV.

10/7/08 Williams Paces Midland Girls to Cross-Country Win - The Midland boys and girls teams went to the Piketon Inv. over the weekend where the girls were crowned team champions and the boys were runner-up.
