Several Returnees Coming for Half-Marathon - A lot of their good
runners will be coming back for the early season race in Fairmont this
weekend. Chesea Jarvis ran an amazing time last year. We have also heard
of some very good runners who did not compete last year that will be
jumping in. This is setting up to be a very competitive race this!

- The much talked about and highly anticipated year-end TriStateRacer.com
Awards have been announced. Congrats to all the winners! If
you want to earn an award next year, um, good luck!! We would give you
some tips but we don't have a clue what the awards will be like or
consist of next year!Go over to the
message boards and let everyone know what you think about the 1st
Annual Racey Awards!

that book to left for sale in April on Amazon. It is a really, really
good book. Check out this
article describing why runners will get it and non-runners do not!
The Quentin Cassidy that is mentioned in the article also
finished 22nd at the Bun Run 5K.
12/30/08 Hangover Run - If
you think that you can make it, a number of pple from the Tallman Track
Club will be meeting at the Dunbar McDonald's at 10 AM on New Year's day
for their annual "Hangover Run." No need to RSVP, just show up and run
with the group!!

When it Comes to Fitness, You are What You Do - Hopefully
everyone is making their New Year's Resolutions and we hope that it
involves some type of fitness goals. This article really explains how
easy true fitness can be.
"When a person trains once, nothing happens. When a person forces
himself to do a thing a hundred or a thousand times, then he certainly
has developed in more ways than physical. Is it raining? That doesn't
matter. Am I tired? That doesn't matter, either. Then willpower will be
no problem."

Molz, Flitz victorious at Ryan Jobes 5K - Great article on this
race that attracted over 300 runners to come out in the cold!

Jobes Memorial 5K in Williamstown, WV Posted. Congrats to Jon Molz
who edged out Levi Grandt as they both came across the line in 15:40. On
the Ladies' side, congrats to Diana Flitz who won with a time of 19:00.

Distance Run Change may start a New Tradition - A good article
in the Charleston Gazette about the first year of the Charleston
Distance Run. It is hard to believe for some, but the best and most
note-worthy runners in the nation have competed in this race.

Funds Targeted for Trail System - Good to see that the PATH
trails in Huntington still have life. This article lists how they are
still searching for money to get the project completed. This will be a
GREAT thing for our area once it is completed!

Three Tri-State Runner in Big Cross Country Meet Today - No not
the national Footlocker race that can be seen live
HERE at 10:00 AM but the USATF National Jr. Olympic XC Championship.
Congrats to these young runners as well!!

couple of Jr. XC Races. First we have the
Region 5 Jr. Olympic Cross Country Championships that were held on
November 15, 2008 in Canton, OH and the
AAU National Cross
Country Championships that was held last weekend in Decatur,
Alabama. Congrats to these young runners!!

All-Area Cross Country - Big Congrats to Tanner Alexander (Who
has a couple of Alias's out on the road race circuit) and Brooklyn Bowen

Fitness Options Exist in the Area - Great article on this
area. There is a chance that we can use the "Nation's Fattest City"
title to motivate and really get out there and RUN!!

WVU Opens
Season with Holiday Classic
- This is our first look at the indoor track team at WVU. Many of the
top runners may not be competing in this since it is so early. The
distance top girls would not compete as they will be coming off of the
great season and looking forward to their next peak at the end of
outdoor season.

The Indoor Track Season opens up this weekend with the WVU Holiday
Classic in Morgantown, WV. We also have the Jingle Bell Run at Pullman
Square in Huntington, WV. Word has it that a couple of really fast
runners will be heading to the Jingle Bell Run in the morning. We will
have full coverage of this race!

Barboursville Middle School Runner Finishes First at Footlocker
- Jacob Burcham ran in the Leah Hickman 5K 2 weeks after severally
spraining his ankle. He was unable to walk for a week and then runs a
17:42 at the Leah Hickman and comes back a week later and beats all the
other athletes in his race.
