6th Annual St. Mary’s Medical Center Tri-State Triathlon
and Duathlon
August 3rd , 2008 – 8am

EVENTS
The sprint distance is half-mile
swim; 40km bike and 5 km run. 5 km run is out and back with a water
stop halfway.
The sprint distance can be done as a relay event. 2 or 3 individuals can do the relay. Flotation devices are allowed in this race).
The duathlon starts with a 2.9mile run then the 40km bike and then the 2.9 mile run again (run counter-clockwise the second time).
A children’s race – ages 6-14 will be held the day before. This is a perfect chance to start the kids off to a healthy lifestyle. Check the website for details.
LOCATION
Beech Fork Lake is located 15 minutes from downtown Huntington. From I-64, take exit 8 and go south on route 152. Travel about 5 miles south and go left at Beech Fork Road (just past the railroad tracks). Follow the signs and it’s 4 miles to the lake. Parking is available at the Marina (by the dam) and before the dam in the lower parking lot. Shuttle buses will be available race morning.
RACE TIMES
Saturday 9am – children’s race
Saturday 5 – 8 pm – packet pickup at HIMG (Huntington Internal Medicine
Group – just off exit 15 on I-64)
Sunday 8 am – Triathlon, relay and duathlon all start together.
REGISTRATION
We want to encourage registration on line at
www.healthyhuntington.org
or at www.active.com. This will
enable us to send you e-mail updates along the way. You may register at
the packet pick-up also if there are still slots open. Entry forms may
also be brought or mailed to Tom Dannals - Huntington Internal Medicine
Group 5170 U.S. Rt. 60 East Huntington, WV 25705.
**** There is no race day registration. There are no refunds of entry
fees.
****Because of parking logistics we are closing registration at 350
entries this year. We expect to fill up; please register early.
PACKET PICK-UP
This will be at the Huntington Internal Medicine Group (HIMG) just off exit 15 on I-64 (29th St. exit) on the day before (Saturday August 2nd ) from 5pm to 8pm. We will once again have a healthy Dean Ornish Pasta dinner included with race entry. The dinner is free for racers and family members under 10. Others are $5. T-shirts will not be mailed to individuals. Please try to make it to the packet pickup on Saturday. If you can’t make it you can pick up your number and t-shirt on race morning between 6 and 7 am.
RACE DAY
The race site opens at 6am. The road closes at 6:30 however so if you want to drive your bike and equipment to the race site you should arrive early. Bikes may be left at the site the night before from 7 – 9pm. Parking for the race will be at the Dam site and shuttle buses may be taken to the race site (2 miles away) or bikes may be ridden from the parking area to the race site Saturday morning. Those in relays who are not biking may prefer the walk from the marina to the beach along the trail next to the water. It’s only a 15 minute walk.
AWARDS
Individual awards are given in each race to the top 3 in
each male and female category in the following age groups: under 20,
20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over, and Athena (female over 150
pounds) and Clydesdale (male over 200 pounds).
Relay awards are given to the top 3 teams in the categories of Male,
Female and Mixed. The race committee will also give out a special award
to the best team name (be creative).
Entry Fees
PRICE: $70 for
each relay team $60 Individual Triathletes or Duathletes if done on or
before July 15th. There are no on-line fees this year!! Please sign up
on-line if at all possible. We do require you to add $5 for paper
applications because of the extra paper work involved.
If registering after July 15th $80 ore each relay team and $70 for
individual competitors. Once again add $5 if you do not register
on-line. Prices on Saturday at packet pickup are $40 for each relay
member and $70 for individual competitors. There is no race day
registration in any event.
Add $5 for pasta dinner for family/friends over 8 years of age.
